DUBLIN, Ohio -- Paul Casey expected to be chasing someone Friday in the Memorial, figuring it would be Rory McIlroy. Cheap Air Max 97 Uk . After two holes, Casey had the lead to himself at Muirfield Village, and that was only the start of another big day. He took advantage of the par 5s for another 6-under 66, giving him a three-shot lead over Masters champion Bubba Watson going into the weekend. McIlroy, whose 63 was the lowest first round in the 39-year history of the tournament, was barely in the picture. He was 15 shots worse with a 78, courtesy of three straight double bogeys and his fourth straight PGA Tour event with a nine-hole score of 40 or higher. McIlroy went from a three-shot lead to nine shots behind. "To be honest, I thought I was going to be playing a round to try and maybe catch a couple of guys," Casey said. "I woke up checking the scores to see what Rory was going to be. Thats really what I was going to be doing -- see how many under I was going to have to try to shoot to chase. Obviously, that didnt happen." Casey, taking another step on a long road back from injuries that nearly derailed his career, was at 12-under 132. He made his first birdie with his best drive of the day on the par-5 11th, setting up a 4-iron onto the green for a two-putt birdie. He made eagle on the par-5 15th hole for the second straight day, and he stuffed it close around the turn for birdies to start pulling away from the field. Watson gave him a good run in an active round that featured six birdies, five bogeys and an eagle. He only was angry at a few shots where he failed to concentrate. Even so, a bogey-bogey finish wasnt enough to entirely ruin his day. Watson has never finished better than 23rd in eight previous appearances. "I cant look at the bogeys," Watson said. "Ive got to look at where Im at. If you told me its my best two days around this golf course, Id take it." Chris Kirk (70) was four shots behind. Hideki Matsuyama (67) and Martin Flores (68) were five back. Adam Scott, who won Colonial in his debut at No. 1 in the world, shot 70 and was at 5-under 139, still in the mix depending on how Casey fares on the weekend. Phil Mickelson was happy to get in two more rounds. He shot a 70, though he was 10 shots back. Canadian Mike Weir failed to make the cut after an even par 72 on Friday to finish 1-over through two days. Casey, once a Ryder Cup regular who reached as high as No. 3 in the world, is slowly getting his game and his life back in the right place. He endured injuries to his shoulder and his toe that kept him winless for more than two years. He went through a divorce. He wondered if he would ever return to the brand of golf he was capable of playing. Weeks like this offer promise. Casey won the Irish Open a year ago with what he called "spectacular" golf. The game is still there. "Its slowly crawling along and making progress, climbing back up the ladder, however you want to phrase it," Casey said. "Its very difficult when youve played to a certain level and then ... I genuinely had no clue how to play to that level. "Luckily, I didnt think about that too long." His life is back in order. Casey is married to British television presenter Pollyanna Woodward. They are expecting their first child (a boy) in September. He talks about having perspective, knowing where golf fits on his list of whats important. His golf has looked familiar over the last two days. McIlroy could say the same. Except for last week at the BMW PGA Championship in England, which he won with birdies on the last two holes, McIlroys good golf has been stalled by bad patches, and Friday was no exception. In fact, it nearly has become the rule. He shot a 43 on the back nine -- he started the round at No. 10 -- making this the fourth consecutive PGA Tour event where he shot at least 40 over nine holes. All of them have been in the second round. McIlroy twice hit the trees on the 13th hole and made double bogey. He hit into the water on the 14th for double bogey. And then he double-hit a wedge on the 15th to make it three straight double bogeys. "These little runs Im getting on where it gets away from me, I was able to avoid that last week," McIlroy said. "Not so much this week. Even though I had such a bad day, Im still in with a chance depending on what the guys do this afternoon. So going into the weekend, not exactly where I want to be. But it could be worse." Casey simple made it a lot harder. Air Max 95 Wholesale Uk . In the dumps following a campaign to forget, England were once again looking in the mirror for self-assessment, while Germany were dancing in front of the Brandenburg Gate in front of half-a-million fans. But 20 months on, and with England preparing to face Germany in a friendly in Berlin on Saturday, have they learned anything from Joachim Lows success? Which issues remain unsolved? And did they need to take all the leaves out of Germanys book in the first place? Germany won the World Cup in 2014, beating Argentina in the final in Brazil Increase the youth poolIn the aftermath of Germanys extra-time win over Argentina in the Maracana, Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson urged Premier League clubs to take better care of their young players.Germany went back to basics, with better coaching, took care of the kids and made sure a lot more German kids were coming through the system to play in the Bundesliga. That was good preparation.Roy Hodgson was praised for bringing Luke Shaw (18), Raheem Sterling (19) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (20) to Brazil, but two weeks later, it was all forgotten.Have Premier League clubs helped increase the youth pool since? This season, whether through a forced hand or gamble, the likes of Reece Oxford (16 at the time), Joe Gomez (18), Marcus Rashford (18), Jordan Rossiter (18), Sheyi Ojo (18), Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (18) and Dele Alli (19) were handed their Premier League debuts.Alli in particular has been a breath of fresh air since his debut in October, and the latest England squad has an average age of 25.6, nearly a year younger than the 2014 World Cup squad. But could the Premier League be doing more? Several young English players have been given their debuts this season Homegrown development is a buzzword heard more in England since 2014, but the Premier League still has some way to go to match Bundesligas alignment with the German national team. The Bundesliga has a big part in this with its training centres, Low said in 2014. The clubs also have their share in this because they got younger and younger players into the first teams. They are doing great work and I have to thank them for that.Put faith in the regularsPremier League form is hard to ignore, but in his four-year tenure as England manager, Hodgson has largely picked players who fit his system.Hodgson has kept faith in the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Phil Jagielka Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge, despite indifferent form or, in some cases, lengthy injury and lack of playing time.He appears acutely aware that a national side needs time to gel as a team before a major tournament, ignoring the temptation and pressure to bring in too many players on fleeting form for their clubs. Roy Hodgson has kept faith in many of his regular players Granted, the balance between old and new is there. Leicesters Jamie Vardy and Danny Drinkwater have been introducced to provide some competition for the regulars, but Englands starting XI, injury-permitting, is tried, tested and relatively predictable. Cheap Air Max 95 Uk. ow did the same before the 2014 World Cup, selecting veteran Miroslav Klose, despite scoring just seven league goals for Lazio the season previous, and Lukas Podolski, who was in and out of Arsenals side. Our biggest strength is that we improved throughout the years even if we missed taking that last step at tournaments, said Low after the win in Rio. England have, by and large, resisted the temptation to tear up and start again after Brazil, and that team cohesion could be telling. All for one, and one for allGermany had no shortage of individual stars since rising from their lowest ebb in 2000, when their group-stage exit from the Euros in Netherlands and Belgium prompted a change in thinking between the German FA and German Football League. But their current crop, and the infamous 2014 side, have never solely relied on just one or two to pull them through. Wayne Rooneys role for England has changed in recent years Whether heaping praise on one, or crucifying another, Englands obsession with the individual has been the hallmark of recent tournaments. One man at the centre has been Wayne Rooney; his injury at Portugal in 2004, question marks over his recovery in time for Germany in 2006, a similar tale for South Africa in 2010, and his two-game suspension for Euro 2012.But Rooneys role has changed. Yes, he is still arguably Englands most important players, but not as the all-singing, all-dancing, pillar of the side. The pressure on his shoulders has spread around the team, and that can only be a good thing for Hodgson approaching what could be his final major tournament in charge.Dont just replicate. Innovate. There is no textbook for international success, and while youth development, squad cohesion and the spread of responsibility seem like givens, England cannot, and have not, attempted to replicate Germanys triumph like-for-like. People who write England should follow the German route are either oblivious to the obstacle or believe in magic wands, said Gary Neville after Brazil. England were 100 per cent in qualification for Euro 2016 We are going to have to find our way of doing it because the system we have doesnt allow us to adopt the German route in its entirety. The Premier Leagues power, attraction and wealth means patient club youth development often comes secondary to short-term success, but Hodgson has regularly pointed to England doing things his own way on the pitch.Of late, Hodgson seems to have rejected the temptation to shoehorn players into positions. He isnt slotting David Beckham in the quarterback role, Neville at right wing-back, or any pick of Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, Emile Heskey and Wayne Rooney on the left wing, all failings of previous managers. This is a huge step in the right direction for Hodgson, but injuries could change things come Russia in Marseille on June 11. Also See: Whos on international duty?
